Testing Requirements - Institutional Recommendation 

When adding an endorsement via Institutional Recommendation, there are currently only two content areas that require the applicant to take and pass a Praxis II exam.  These are Elementary Education and Social Studies Composite.

 

Elementary Education

These applicants must take the Praxis II exam 0011 “Elementary Education: Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment” and receive a passing score of 160 or better. 

 

Social Studies Composite

These applicants must take the Praxis II exam 0081 “Social Studies: Content Knowledge” and receive a passing score of 158 or better.

 

Testing Requirements - Demonstration of Competency 

When adding an endorsement via Demonstration of Competency, ALL applicants are required to take and pass a Praxis II exam in their endorsement area.  This is a standard requirement for the Demonstration of Competency.

Testing for Special Education teachers who are, or would like to be, teacher of record

Special Education teachers may use a Praxis II exam in order to meet the Highly Qualified requirement to be the teacher of record for a specific core content area.

 

 

Frequently asked questions regarding testing for added endorsements

Can I just take a Praxis exam to add an endorsement area?

No.     

Secondary (6-12) teachers who would like to add a Middle School endorsement, please see Middle School Praxis exception.

What if I took a Praxis exam in another state?

In order for it to be accepted by PTSB, the test you took must be equivalent to the Praxis II exam required in Wyoming for your content area.  In general, if you took the test as a requirement for certification in another state, it will be accepted by PTSB. 

Do I have to take a Praxis exam if I am adding an endorsement through an Institutional Recommendation?

No.       Except for Elementary Ed. and Social Studies Composite applicants, as stated above.
